Zendaya Coleman Upset At Giuliana Rancic For Her Dreadlocks Criticism
Full post after cut..........................
Hispanic actress Zendaya Coleman did not take kindly to the offhand remarks made about her ethnic hairstyle which she wore on the red carpet at the Oscar Awards on Sunday. Zenday’s hairstyle combined her good hair with hair weave in a braided dreadlocks style made popular in America by the late reggae superstar Bob Marley and other Caribbean natives.Fashion Police host Giuliana Rancic asked Zendaya about her unusual hairstyle on the red carpet at the Oscar Awards on Sunday.Rancic noted that Zendaya’s hairstyle made her look like she smelled of “patchouli oil,” to which actress Kelly Osbourne added: “or weed.”That was enough for Black Twitter to go IN on all parties involved in the mockery: Rancic and Osbourne, but particularly Zendaya for daring to wear the Jamaican Rastafarian hairstyle in the first place.A humiliated Zendaya took to her Instagram page to lash out at Rancic and Osbourne for what she called “offensive” comments about her hairstyle.“There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful,” she wrote. “To say that an 18 year old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or “weed” is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive.”For her part, Rancic quickly apologized to the teenager on social media.“Dear @Zendaya, I’m sorry I offended you and others. I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!” Rancic Tweeted. As a British woman born to Jamaican parents I agree that the remarks were offensive. But even more offensive is Zendaya walking around wearing FAKE dreadlocks and then having the nerve to act insulted when white people call her out for being phony.
