In Nasarawa State Nigeria, unknown gunmen assassinated the official driver of the State governor Umaru Al-Makura in an unseemingly unprovoked attack at Tudun Adabu village in Obi Local Government Area of the state. Abdullahi Mairuwa, the governor's head driver was brutally murdered by assassins yesterday in what may have been a political murder. Police have begun investigating the murder and it is not yet clear if was a robbery or a targeted assassination as the political atmosphere begins to heat up. Nasarawa State Police Command spokesperson, Assistant Superintendant of Police (ASP) Ismaila Numan, confirmed the incident in Lafia yesterday.
He said the victim was travelling with his wife from Lafia to Keana Local Government Area on Saturday morning when they were attacked. ASP Numan said: “The report we got from the scene indicated that Mairuwa’s killers shot him at close range in the presence of his wife before escaping through a bush path.” One family source said that the gun men had told the victim’s wife not to panic as they were to her husband alone, whom they shot twice in the chest. He added that the remains of Mr Mairuwa had been taken to Keana for burial according to Islamic rites.
