The San Antonio Spurs are headed back to the NBA Finals for a rematch with LeBron James and the Miami Heat. The 2014 Finals will mark the first rematch since Michael Jordan’s Bulls defeated the Jazz, led by Karl Malone and John Stockton, in 1997 and ’98. Duncan is seeking his fifth championship. He led the Spurs to titles in 1999, 2003, ’05 and ’07. The Spurs have said all season they moved on from the heart-wrenching loss to the Heat. The Spurs will have home-court advantage in the Finals, which will have a 2-2-1-1-1 format after this year’s change from 2-3-2.
Game 1 is Thursday in San Antonio. After eliminating the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 overtime, Duncan admitted the Spurs have some unfinished business to take care of against the Heat in the 2014 NBA Finals. "We're happy that it's the Heat," Duncan said. "We'll be ready for them. We've got some experience, obviously, from last year against them. And we'll go back and look at some film. Tim Duncan is anticipating a different outcome in the NBA Finals this year. No word from Lebron and the Heat yet.
