The American world No1, who missed out on a 20th Grand Slam title last week following defeat to Garbine Muguruza in the French Open final, has banked £53.4m in on-court earnings alone during an illustrious career.
On court last year, Williams once again dominated the women’s game with three Grand Slam titles and just three defeats in 56 matches.
