When Pistorius spoke at his very lengthy trial, he said that he had shot his model girlfriend by mistake through the bathroom door before hammering the door down with a cricket bat. But forensic expert brothers, Calvin and Thomas Mollett, have drawn attention to two wounds on the models back. The brothers argue that the wounds are consistent with the tip of the bat, while also arguing that marks on the cricket bat’s handle suggest that a struggle had taken place.
In a new book entitled Oscar vs The Truth, the brothers carry out an independent analysis of the evidence given in trial, following the 2013 killing of Miss Steenkamp. After Steenkamp, who at the time was only 29, was shot four times, the paralympic champion claimed that the shooting was a tragic mistake and pleaded that he had thought his girlfriend was a house invader. But judges have now ruled that he had intended to kill Miss Steenkamp during a row. He is now due to be re-sentenced in June.
