Two American presenters
on the Russian backed TV station (Russia today television network) have gone
off script to voice their personal concerns about Russia's occupation of the
Crimea region of Ukraine. First last Tuesday, Abby Martin went off-script when
talking about the crisis in Ukraine at the end of her news report, saying: "I
can't stress enough how strongly I am against any state intervention in a sovereign
nation's affairs, What Russia did is wrong." The network, RT announced that it was sending Martin to Crimea
to give her an opportunity to make up her own mind from the epicentre of the
story. Martin has tweeted that
she is not going to Crimea.
Now her
colleague Liz Wahl has added her voice today, announcing her resignation on
air. She told viewers she could not be part of a Russian government-funded
station "that whitewashes the actions of Putin." Liz Wahl statement
on air reads: "as a reporter on this network, I face many ethical and
moral challenges, My grandparents came here as refugees during the Hungarian
revolution, ironically to escape the Soviet forces, I am very lucky to have
grown up here in the United States." Liz said that she was the daughter of
a military veteran and her partner was a doctor at a military base where he
sees everyday the first-hand accounts of the ultimate prices that people pay
for this country. she said "I am proud to be an American and believe in
disseminating the truth and that is why after this newscast, I'm
resigning." Watch the video below….
