For New York residents 2 inches of snow isn't
supposed to keep motorists stranded overnight on highways, but that was the case in Atlanta Georgia. Hundreds of motorists both in Alabama and Georgia stuck in their cars Wednesday morning, as a result of the snow
shower that hit the states Tuesday. Some travelers sought shelter at strangers' homes, schools, and Home Depot, which opened 26 stores overnight in both states. Some students were found in Atlanta still making their way home on a school bus at 5:30 a.m. Atlanta Public Schools spokeswoman Kimberly Willis Green said
"several hundred students at nine schools are sheltered in place." In Atlanta about 940
confirmed accidents were noted, over 100 of them with injuries, the Georgia public safety commissioner had said, while in Alabama, the freezing rain made driving very dangerous as about five people died in accidents Tuesday. Governors in both states declared states of emergency.
